La Soledad Hermitage (Palazuelos, Spain)

Description: The Hermitage of La Soledad in Palazuelos (Sigüenza, Spain) was built in the 16th century by the Vera Cruz brotherhood. Its notable feature is its geminated (double) door, which facilitated the orderly passage of parishioners, entering through one door and exiting through the other. The hermitage must have undergone a major renovation in 1725, as evidenced by the date engraved on one of its doors. This type of hermitage became popular in Spain in the 16th century, linked both to the rise of brotherhoods, especially that of the Vera Cruz, and to the movement of people on the roads.
